What is a vCard QR code?

A vCard QR code encodes contact details in the vCard (.vcf) format — the standard every phone uses for its address book — so someone can add you to their contacts by scanning instead of typing. It is the digital version of handing over a business card.

There are two kinds. A static vCard QR code bakes all your details directly into the printed pattern: it works, but it can never be changed and it tells you nothing about who scanned it. A dynamic vCard QR code — what Scanely creates — encodes a short link to a hosted contact page instead. That one difference means you can edit your details after printing, and every scan is tracked. Static vs dynamic vCard QR codes

The difference shows up the first time your phone number, title, or company changes.

How to create a dynamic vCard QR code

1

Create a free account

Sign up at scanely.io — no credit card. The free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes.

2

Choose "Contact card"

Create a new QR code and flip the type toggle from Link to Contact card.

3

Fill in your details

Name, company, title, phone, email, website — any field is optional.

4

Download, print, edit anytime

Export as PNG or SVG for your business card or signature. Change any detail later without reprinting the code.

A contact page, not a raw data dump

Static vCard codes drop a wall of raw text on the scanner's screen. Scanely serves a clean, branded page instead.

One-tap save

A "Save to contacts" button downloads a standard .vcf — iPhone and Android both offer "Add to Contacts" instantly.

Always current

Change your number, title, or company in the dashboard and every printed card reflects it — no reprint.

Scan analytics

See how many people saved your contact, from which city, on what device — measurable networking.

Frequently asked questions

What is a vCard QR code?

A QR code that encodes contact details in the vCard (.vcf) format so a phone can add them to its address book after a scan. Static ones bake the data into the pattern; dynamic ones (Scanely) link to an editable, trackable contact page.

What's the difference between static and dynamic?

A static vCard QR can't be changed once printed and gives you no analytics. A dynamic one points to a hosted page you can edit anytime, so every printed code stays current — and each scan is counted.

How do people save my contact after scanning?

The scan opens your contact page in the browser with a "Save to contacts" button that downloads a .vcf. iPhone and Android both recognise it and prompt "Add to Contacts" in one tap.

Is there a free vCard QR code generator?

Yes — Scanely's free plan includes 3 dynamic contact cards with tracking and editable details. Most free generators only make static codes. We also have a free static vCard tool for one-off codes.

Can I track scans?

Yes. Every scan of a dynamic contact card records count, city, device, and time — so you can see which event or signature drives the most saved contacts.

Which contact fields are supported?

First and last name, company, job title, phone, email, and website. The generated file uses standard vCard 3.0, which every modern phone reads.
