QR code generator with no expiry
Many “free” QR generators start a trial and switch dynamic codes off when it ends. Scanely does not. Here is exactly what keeps working, and the few things that can stop a code.
What never expires
- Static codes from our free tools. The link is stored in the pattern itself, so there is nothing to switch off. No account needed.
- Dynamic codes on the Free plan. Up to 3 editable codes with scan analytics. There is no trial: they keep redirecting for as long as you keep them.
- Codes over the scan allowance. Free includes 1,000 scans per month with a direct redirect and full analytics. Above that, codes still redirect. Extra scans are counted, and their analytics unlock when you upgrade.
- Codes in inactive accounts. Not logging in does not disable a Free code.
What can stop a QR code
- You set an expiry date or a scan cap on a code yourself, for example for a limited offer.
- You deactivate or delete the code.
- The destination goes offline, moves, or loses its sharing permissions. This affects static and dynamic codes alike.
The trade-off on Free
Up to 1,000 scans a month, Free codes redirect directly, with no Scanely screen. After that, each scan shows a short Scanely screen before redirecting, and analytics for the extra scans stay locked until you upgrade. We email you at 80% and 100% of the allowance. Paid plans start at $9/month. See pricing for current plans.
Static or dynamic?
Pick static when the link will never change, such as Wi-Fi details or a long-lived homepage. Pick dynamic when you may need to change the link after printing or want to count scans. Read more in do QR codes expire? and what is a dynamic QR code.

Questions
Do Scanely QR codes expire?
No. Static codes you download contain the link itself and never expire. Dynamic codes on the Free plan keep redirecting with no trial period and no time limit. A code only stops if you set an expiry date or scan cap yourself, deactivate or delete it, or the destination stops working.
What happens if I go over 1,000 scans a month on Free?
Your codes keep redirecting. Scans above the allowance are still counted, but their details stay locked in your dashboard until you upgrade, and a short Scanely screen appears before the redirect. You get an email at 80% and 100% of the allowance.
Will my codes stop if I do not log in for a while?
No. Inactivity does not disable codes on the Free plan.
Is there a catch on the Free plan?
Up to 1,000 scans a month, Free codes redirect straight to your link with full analytics. Above that, scans show a short Scanely screen before redirecting and the extra analytics are locked until you upgrade. Free includes 3 dynamic codes; paid plans add more codes, scans, and features.
Which codes should I print if I never want to think about it again?
A static code depends only on its destination. A dynamic code depends on the destination and on the Scanely redirect, but lets you change the link and count scans. Choose static for a stable link and dynamic when the link may change.
